Essay

Hepworth described how she used the process of drawing to ‘search for forms and rhythms and curvatures for [her] own satisfaction.’ This lithograph is named after Porthmeor, a beach close to Hepworth’s studio in St Ives. Hepworth had become ‘bewitched’ when observing the sea there: 'the form I call Porthmeor is the ebb and flow of the Atlantic.'
