Essay

The light, colour and shapes in Frost’s bold abstract paintings are grounded in the sensations he felt when experiencing nature. He described his debt to Lanyon, whose work is shown nearby, claiming Lanyon taught him ‘how to experience landscape’. Frost explains how he achieved a heightened perception of a place by roaming about it, taking in multiple perspectives, tuning in to how he had felt moved by it: ‘all the while you’re feeling those forms all through, you’re travelling through the landscape’.
