Artist Biography

Ugo Rondinone was born in Brunnen in 1964, studied at the Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna, and lives and works in New York. Since the 1980s he has built up a rich body of work across multiple media, including painting, photography, sound, and sculpture, mixing warm, dazzling hues to create enigmatic declarations.
Especially famous are his multi-coloured stone formations: the largest, Seven Magic Mountains, was assembled in the Nevada Desert from 2011 to 2016 and remains a much-visited landmark.
Rondinone’s Korean solo debut Burn to Shine is
showing at the Museum SAN, Wonju (KR, 2024) until 18 September after traveling from the Fosun Foundation, Shanghai (CN, 2023); Another solo exhibition Cry Me a River is currently at the Kunstmuseum Luzerne until 20 October. His
works appear in prestigious public collections including MoMA, New York, Centre Pompidou, Paris, The Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, and the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome, among others.
