Artist Biography
b.1964
Born in 1964 in Boston, Ann Craven received her MFA from Columbia University and her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art. Her work falls into distinct categories—animals copied from salvaged old books and postcards, the moon, and abstract diagonal stripes—and always carries a sensuous eye for detail, aiming to capture every blur and crack of the now-lost moments and her own rich observations of them. She lives and works in New York, with summers spent painting in Maine.
Craven was recently honoured with solo shows at the SCAD Museum of Art, South Carolina (US, 2023) and Karma, New York (US, 2023) and has enjoyed large museum retrospectives at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland (US, 2019) and Le Confort Moderne, Poitiers, (FR, 2014). In 2024 she has also featured in multiple group exhibitions, including Dog Days of Summer at Timothy Taylor, New York (US), LAVINIA at Hannah Hoffman Gallery, Los Angeles (US), and LOVE WILL COME BACK at Phillida Reid in London (UK).
