Exhibition Highlights

PhillipsX in partnership with Casterline|Goodman Gallery is pleased to announce The Mouse that Rocked: The Art of Stanley Mouse, a Los Angeles selling exhibition highlighting the work of Stanley Mouse, the legendary American artist who launched a graphic revolution that defined rock ‘n’ roll iconography for decades. Comprised of more than 100 paintings, drawings, and works on paper from the 1980s to today, The Mouse that Rocked: The Art of Stanley Mouse will be on view 20 March - 17 April in Phillips' West Hollywood galleries.

STANLEY MOUSE Love Ride, 1998

Born in Southern California in 1940, Stanley “Mouse” Miller is best known for the album art and concert posters he produced for some of the most important musicians and bands of the 20th century, including the Grateful Dead, Journey, the Steve Miller band, and others. Mouse spent his formative years in Detroit, immersed in the city’s Hot Rod culture and the emergence of Motown music. Here he was first introduced to the pinstriping and airbrushing techniques that became part of his signature style. The artist eventually settled in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, where he expanded his lexicon of imagery, incorporating art historical and design references reimagined for the Acid Age.

The Mouse that Rocked: The Art of Stanley Mouse includes examples of Mouse’s most iconic compositions, offering collectors the opportunity to own a piece of rock ‘n’ roll history by the visionary artist.

STANLEY MOUSE Guitar Player on Stage, 2009

It is an honor to present The Mouse that Rocked: The Art of Stanley Mouse in our Los Angeles galleries. Stanley’s singular visual language – a mix of psychedelic Victoriana, Art Nouveau, and Kustom Kulture – came to define the aesthetic of the Post-War anti-establishment. His work has the enduring, cool appeal of Classic Rock itself, and similar to the music of the era, it has had a lasting impact on all that’s come after.”
