Lê Phổ is widely recognized as one of the most significant figures in the history of modern Vietnamese art, celebrated for his seamless fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetic traditions. In the 1930s, following a path shared by artists such as Sanyu and Foujita, he traveled to Paris alongside fellow Vietnamese artists, including Mai Trung Thứ, immersing himself in the vibrant artistic scene of the era.

Within this dynamic cultural exchange, Lê Phổ cultivated a distinctive visual language—one that harmonized the spirit of his time with a deeply personal style, reflecting a unique cultural identity and a forward-looking artistic vision.

Mai Trung Thứ is celebrated as a pioneering voice in modern Vietnamese art, admired for his poetic refinement and his ability to weave traditional Vietnamese sensibilities into a distinctly modern idiom. In the 1930s, following a path shared by artists such as Sanyu and Foujita, he journeyed to Paris alongside contemporaries like Lê Phổ, immersing himself in the city’s thriving artistic milieu. Within this rich cultural interchange, Mai Trung Thứ developed an unmistakable visual language—one defined by his lyrical use of silk, his delicate yet expressive compositions, and a profound sensitivity to the elegance of everyday life. His work embodies not only the spirit of his generation but also a singular artistic vision that continues to resonate across cultures and time.
